About the film:
“That’s My Jazz” presents an intimate portrait of Milt Abel II, considered one of the best young pastry chefs in the world. The son of Kansas City jazz legend, Milt Abel Sr., Milt II longed to follow in his father’s footsteps, but on a different stage. He found his passion in the culinary arts at an early age, working his way up to become head pastry chef at Thomas Keller’s The French Laundry and Per Se, and sous pastry chef at Rene Redzepi’s two-Michelin star restaurant Noma.
Everything in the style of this film creates a visceral experience of the culture of jazz music-the black and white textures of the film, the improvisational melodies, the smoke-filled bars, the feel of a child gripping his father’s bass, and the smell of Grand Marnier. Through these metaphors the viewer is invited to explore the universal choice all of us face throughout our lives balancing our career choices with the importance of family and friends.
Screening followed by a Q&A conversation with director Ben Proudfoot and Windrider co-founder, Craig Detweiler.
