Teen Press

Friday, July 7, 2017 at 7 PM - Part of our Short Films Program

Screening followed by a Q & A with filmmaker T.C. Johnstone.

This uplifting short documentary chronicles the story of the Santa Barbara Teen Press, a journalism program created by two teachers who used the opportunity to cover their own local film festival as journalists to inspire their students. They taught them to research issues, educate themselves on the backgrounds of potential interviewees, and create interesting and engaging questions to draw their subjects into conversation. The students soon find themselves interviewing celebrities on the red carpet as well as world leaders, and through this experience, they learn that they have the ability to engage with anyone and help them tell their stories.

Numerous awards, including Heartland Film Festival, Audience Choice Award and Virginia Film Festival, Audience Choice Award.

Filmmaker T.C. Johnstone will be making a return visit to Windrider for our Q & A following the Short Film Program. He also joined us in 2012 to present his film Rising From Ashes.

Press Coverage for Teen Press

Teen Press Alumni now College Sophomore

“Almost 7 years have passed since I first joined Teen Press, and to this day it’s an experience I have never, ever forgotten. Teen Press changed my life and gave me the opportunity to be taken seriously by celebrities like Clint Eastwood, Penelope Cruz, Steve Wozniak, and countless others, but its most important reward came when I started to take my own 13-year-old self seriously, and realized I could achieve just about anything.”
